WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wounded Warrior ride to Wilmington ended early today after one of the riders was involved in an accident with a car.
A Cape Fear Community College spokesman said one of the riders was bumped during the ride to Wilmington. No one was seriously hurt, but the delay led organizers to pull the plug on the rest of the trip that was supposed to end at Cape Fear Community College’s downtown campus.
The annual ride is made up of disabled military veterans. This ride started this morning in Holly Ridge.
Many of the riders use adaptive bicycles that allow them to participate in spite of missing limbs or other severe injuries.
This annual event serves to raise awareness of the many thousands of our veterans that have been injured.
