SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) — Enjoy sun and paddling fun at Surf City Saturday to help veterans here in the Cape Fear.
Joshua Torres began teaching surf lessons as a means to provide wounded warriors with a sense of relief and therapy.
Now, along with his father Dwight, they created Paddle for the Troops, a non-profit group dedicated to raising funds in support of local veterans.
On Saturday they celebrate the 5th annual Paddle for Troops at Surf City.
The event combines a 5K Fun Paddle and a 10K Competitive Race with a day of fun events, music and chance to help local veterans.
Registration starts at 9 a.m. at Sears Landing Grill and Boat Docks in Surf City and the races start at 10 a.m..
