WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Miracle League of Wilmington made dreams come true this weekend as members unveiled the Miracle League accessible field and playground at 5510 Olsen Park Lane in Wilmington.
This field, unlike other ball fields, is not made out of dirt. Instead, builders used handicap-friendly materials so anyone with special needs, including wounded warriors and seniors, can access it.
Angela Blanton says she is happy her two special needs daughters now have a comfortable place to play.
“They will be thrilled to not have to not have to maneuver around dirt and potholes,” said Blanton. “They will not expend all of their energy getting to the field and being exhausted by the time they get to play.”
Blanton’s daughters and other children tested out the bases after the ceremony. Maggie and Bonnie are excited to play soccer, tee ball, and use the playground.
